Compass Rose

A very popular design in Coastal and Nautical decorating is the Compass Rose. You see it painted on ceilings, used on home decorating fabric, printed on exterior rugs and I have even seen it as an inlay on a wood floor.
The compass rose has appeared on charts and maps since the 1300’s. Originally the Wind Rose (later changed to Compass Rose) was used to indicate the direction of the winds. The 32 points of the compass rose come from the directions of the eight major winds, the eight half-winds and the sixteen quarter-winds.

I recently purchased an outdoor rug that has a compass rose in the center and I absolutely love it. Here are some ways you can use the Compass Rose motif in your Coastal or Nautical decorating.

Thanks for taking a peek ~
