Saturday Musings

I love being inspired! Whether I am walking through a fabric store, a home decor store or just your good old hardware store, inspiration can be found just about anywhere! Another place I find a plethora of inspiration and ideas are in magazines and catalogs. I receive several magazines a month and about every 6 weeks (it seems) the latest Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel catalogs. I peruse thru them like a cat waiting for prey, slowly going from page to page, not wanting to miss one single item.

I received the Pottery Barn Early Summer 2012 catalog yesterday. I am not a shopaholic by any means but I guess you could call me a "dreamaholic". I love to see what's new, what the trends are and do it in my own home for a fraction of the cost. Many of us are not about the price tag but about the price "savings". I read a ton of blogs and see it every day, the D.I.Y'er, the gal that is going to get the look but not pay the price.
In this issue of Pottery Barn it is all about cheerful colors and bright florals in bedding. There is also another small section called "Summer Lodge". A more ethnic chic look with what appears to be more of an 'IKAT" bedding, very warm & inviting.

I want it ALL! I want the look, all the furniture and all the accessories!

Back to reality. You can have the look, (I don’t know about the “ALL’) but you can get the look and you don’t have to buy it all from PB. I find that if I start with one item that is a “want” meaning okay say that “Gabriella Upholstered Headboard”, (in this issue) I can work around it and add less expensive furniture, accessories that I may already have or something that I can re-purpose and paint.
PAINT.. Paint also changes a room, Instantly! 2 gallons of paint $50. How cheap is that to get a new look!
PILLOWS! Change them out a couple times a year.
Look at your layers.
Your bedding, accent pillows and your wall color and don’t forget your accessories.
Change a few of those “layers”, take something from one room and add to another, mix it up, USE WHAT YOU HAVE and voila! you have a new room, not an empty wallet AND better yet, you can still be a dreamaholic!

Thanks for taking a peek~
